Podcast May 25, 2007
Welcome to the Will County Sheriffs Office weekly podcast for the week of May 14th to 21st.
With the weather cooling down over the weekend, the crime rate dropped dramatically.
The people living in Plainfield Township apparently listened to the first podcast and have been locking their vehicles because there were no vehicle burglaries this week - good going Plainfield township.
Last week we talked about identity thefts and some of the things that you can do to make it more difficult for these types of crimes to occur. An example, May 18th, Lockport Township: a young lady makes a report to the Sheriffs Office after she runs a credit check and finds that someone used her name to open a Sprint account. She was able to find this out before any collection agencies began calling her. The offender charged over $3600 on the account. If she had not run that credit check, she probably would have been notified by a collection agency and then would have to re-establish her credit. These types of cases cross all boundary lines.
Another example, May 14th, Frankfort Township a citizen advises that after applying for credit she is told that two people from the state of Washington are using her social security number. Apparently someone by the name of Dhong Kimm from Kent, Washington and Loren Bowles from Pyally, Washington were using the social security number to gain employment. Both cases are being investigated.

th, Frankfort township. At about 8:30 am at the construction site of Lincoln Way North High School, workers noticed a suspicious person at a construction trailer removing bales of wire and loading them into a pickup truck. As one of the workers approached the subject it was apparent that he was stealing the wire. Workers called 9-1-1 stating that there was a burglary in progress and describing the suspect as a male white approximately 150 pounds, 6 foot 1 inch, 25 30 years of age, with a thin mustache, driving a 2000 Chevy S10 with the rear window broken out and covered with plastic and duct tape. As the suspect fled, a construction worker attempted to follow the vehicle but gave up after the speed became too dangerous. Sheriffs deputies were able to give out a dispatch looking for the vehicle. As of this date, the vehicle and suspect have not been located. The value of the wire was over $2500. May 17th, New Lenox Township: a citizen comes home and pulls into his driveway at approximately 10 pm. He notices a suspicious looking stranger on the side of his residence. He goes inside and asks his wife to call 9-1-1. He grabs his 12 gauge shotgun and goes back outside. He observes a male, black approximately 6 feet tall wearing a dark nylon sports jacket. The unknown man begins to charge towards him. The citizen yells for the man to stop but he continues towards the citizen who then fires one shot near the ground in order to scare him away. The perpetrator runs toward the back yard area. At this time the citizen sees a second male black wearing the same type of clothing except with a hoodie covering his face. This second person jumps out of one of the bedroom windows near where the homeowner was standing. The homeowner ran after both suspects but could not locate them. He did witness a small van leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Nothing was missing from the home. Anyone who may have seen someone in the area matching the description of the males or the van, or having any information about this can call the Will county Sheriffs office at

There were 46 graduates in this class, those 46, along with staff, elected Sgt. Ellingham to receive this award. Also graduating from the Sheriffs Office was Sgt. Duane Davis, Sgt. Tom Budde, Sgt. Jeanette Montgomery, Sgt. Steve Byland and Sgt. Albaro Tellez.
