WEEK OF MARCH 1 THRU 8

 

 

EAST TOWNSHIPS

3/1       Location:  Dralle Road and Will Center Road           University Park

            Summary:  Victim stated that he has hunted a farm field for over 20 years and has a duck blind on the property and has never had a problem.  Person/s unknown entered the duck blind and stole a trail camera ($300), 12 duck decoys ($10 each), and 6 goose decoys ($25 each).

 

            Location:  8500 block of Eagle Lake Road                Peotone

            Summary:  Jonathan Meegan, age 22, of 26825  88th Avenue in Monee was arrested for DUI and driving without a license after his Ford Escort got stuck in the mud of a resident’s backyard.  Two victims contacted Sheriff’s deputies around 3:20am to report the vehicle driving in their yards.  Meegan stated to deputies that he was looking for a party.

 

3/3       Location:  Steger Road and Western Avenue                        Park Forest

            Summary:  Antwon K. Sallis, age 38, of 23455 S. Western Avenue in Park Forest was cited for no headlights when required, driving while license suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

 

            Location:  1515 West Exchange         Crete Monee High School                  Crete

            Summary:  Person/s unknown burglarized a gym locker of a student, stealing a debit card and cell phone.  On the same day the card was used three times at the PB gas station on Western Avenue.

 

3/4       Location: 1800 block of W. 235th Street        Crete  

            Summary:  Person/s unknown entered an unoccupied residence that was being remodeled.  An 18 volt cordless drill was stolen.

 

3/7       Location:  300 block of E. County Line Road                       Washington

            Summary:  David E. Clifton, age 21, of 3011 N. 15270 E. Rd. in Momence was arrested for DUI and possession of cannabis under 30 grams after he was found by a homeowner seated in his vehicle, which was parked in the homeowner’s backyard.

 

            Location:  1000 block of Richton Road                     Crete

            Summary:  Person/s unknown broke into a residence and stole a Nikon camera and flash attachment, a Playstation gaming system, 4 games, and gaming cords.

 

WEST TOWNSHIPS

3/2       Location:  2700 block of Wilshire      Plainfield

            Summary:  Person/s unknown broke a storm window of a residence.

 

3/4       Location:  21000 block of W. Knollwood Court       Plainfield

            Summary:  Person/s unknown broke into a residence thru the garage door and stole 26 items worth an approximate total of over $15,000.  Property included antique dinnerware, 5 TV’s, 2 computers and accessories, 2 digital cameras, 2 electric keyboards, an amplifier, an equalizer, CD player, DVD player, X-Box gaming system and a satellite TV receiver.  It is believed that the offender/s pulled their vehicle into the garage and closed the overhead door during the burglary. 

 

 

LOCKPORT

3/2       Location:  400 block of North Avenue

            Summary:  James L. Szymanski, age 17, of 417 North Avenue in Lockport was arrested for domestic battery.

 

3/4       Location:  20408 W. Renwick Road              LaFarge North American

            Summary:  Supervisor reported that between 3/2 and 3/4 person/s unknown entered the site and cut the padlocks off a garage, plant building, and two containers.  Offender/s then stole 460 ft. of copper wire, a torch set and a set of crescent tools.

 

3/5       Location:  15543 S. Weber Road                   Hawthorne Landscaping

            Summary:  Owner stated person/s unknown entered a 20 ft. enclosed trailer and stole 4 hand shovels, 4 hand pruners ($300), 8 gas blowers ($4880), 4 gas hedge trimmers ($1060), 5 gas trimmers (1,100), gas trimmer ($320), and a gas stick hedger ($530).

 

SOUTH TOWNSHIPS

3/1       Location:  23000 block of W. Coal City road                        Wilmington

            Summary:  Between 2/28 and 3/1 person/s unknown vandalized three vehicles and a garage door of a residence.  A pickup truck had one tire slashed and the rear and side windows were spray painted with black paint.  A van had one tire slashed and a passenger window spray painted with black paint, and the third vehicle had all four tires slashed and the rear window, all side windows and the windshield were spray-painted black.  The side mirrors were also painted.

 

            Location:  26000 block of W. Willow Lane               Wilmington

            Summary:  Adam D. Aiello, age 29, of 26026 Catfish Drive in Wilmington was arrested on 3/5 for domestic battery, criminal trespass to residence and battery.

 

3/3       Location:  500 block of e. Mary Lane                        Reed

            Summary:  James T. Walker, age 42, of 1009 Janet in Darien was arrested for domestic battery.

 

3/4       Location:  34000 block of Pine Grove                        Wilmington

            Summary:  Person/s unknown fraudulently made 18 charges to a debit card of a victim.

 

3/6       Location:  Delaney and Rt. 52                        Manhattan

            Summary:  Brian P. Niehoff, age 27, of 3310 Crazy Horse Drive in New Lenox was arrested for DUI, DUI over the legal limit, speeding and following too closely.

 

 HOMER GLEN

3/4       Location:  143rd and Bell Road

            Summary:  Philip Ortiz, age 20, of 16713 Basil Drive in Lockport was cited for driving on a suspended license and disobeying a traffic control device.

 

            Location:  143rd and Bell Road

            Summary:  David Zitt, age 51, of 6905 Clarendon Hills in Darien was cited for improper lane usage and failure to signal after he attempted to turn into a parking lot in front of another vehicle and was struck causing his vehicle to roll onto its roof.  Zitt was transported to Palos Community Hospital for neck and upper back pain. 

 

3/6       Location:  15000 block of W. 159th Street

            Summary:  At 5:36am Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched regarding a four car accident.  The driver of a 2000 Buick LaSabre, Khalid Ahmad, age 45, of Tinley Park lost control due to black ice as he was heading westbound on 159th St.  The Buick spun off the road striking a light pole.  The pole fell to the ground landing across 159th St. which caused three other vehicles to strike the pole.  Ahmad declined medical attention at the scene.  Other drivers that struck the pole and caused damage to their vehicles included:  1) A 25 yr. old male from Lockport driving a 2001 Cavalier, eastbound – undercarriage and extensive driver’s side damage.  Medical attention declined. 2) A 24 yr. old female from Homer Glen driving a 2003 Honda CRV eastbound – considerable undercarriage damage.  Medical attention declined. 3) A 49 yr. old male from Orland Hills driving a 2003 Dodge Ram with a snowbird trailer attached, heading eastbound – undercarriage and considerable damage to the trailer.  Drivers’ wife and 15 yr. old son were passengers and all declined medical attention.

 Immediately following the initial incident, a 17 yr. old female from Homer Glen with a 19 year old male passenger pulled to the side of the road heading westbound, exited their vehicle, and approached Ahmad’s vehicle to help him when one of the above vehicles, heading eastbound struck the pole causing the pole to bounce and struck the couple in their legs.  Lockport Fire checked the couple out and both declined further attention.  Lockport Township Highway Department was notified and deputies at the scene removed the pole from the roadway.  

 

3/6       Location:  Tamarack and Pineview

            Summary:  Brittany M. Twomey, age 26, of 11268 Endicott Court in Orland Park was cited for disobeying a stop sign after her Jeep Liberty was struck by  another vehicle causing the Jeep to roll over.  Twomey was transported to Silver Cross Hospital, along with her 2 year old daughter.  Neither had external injuries and further medical condition unknown.

 

3/7       Location:  159th and Will Cook Road

            Summary:  Steve Welch, age 45, of 4913 W. 109th Street in Oak Lawn was cited for improper lane usage and driving while license revoked.

 

JOLIET

3/1       Location:  500 block Fairbanks Avenue

            Summary: Person/s unknown punctured the front side tire of a Ford Contour.

 

            Location:  500 block Fairbanks Avenue

            Summary:  Person/s unknown punctured the tire of a Nissan Sentra.

 

            Location:  1000 block of Karner Drive

            Summary:  A 16 year old male from Joliet was arrested for motor vehicle theft and residential burglary.

 

3/3       Location:  200 block of Barr Elms

            Summary:  person/s unknown entered an unlocked vehicle and stole about $20 in change.

 

            Location:  400 block of White Avenue

            Summary:  person/s unknown entered an unlocked vehicle.  Nothing appeared to be missing.

 

            Location:  300 block of Hartford Place

            Summary:  Person/s unknown entered an unlocked vehicle and stole 7 CD’s, and about $5.00 in change.

 

3/4       Location:  1500 block of Raymond

            Summary:  At approximately 8pm deputies were dispatched regarding three subjects running on Raymond St. all wearing black and carrying a white box.  The subjects were then seen entering a gray four door sedan, possibly a Cadillac or Impala.  Deputies received no response at the house that the subjects were seen fleeing from but upon checking the back entrance observed the door to be open and it appeared that a forced entry had been made.  It was later learned that the offenders stole a jewelry box, two small lock boxes and a 19’ TV.  Under investigation.

 

            Location:  27711 S. Frontage Road East        Multi-Modal Logistics Park

            Summary:    Owners of a trucking company, who had five of their service trucks on site, stated that person/s unknown cut off the rear padlocks and removed about 500 ft. of copper lined welding cable, 2 impact wrenches, and numerous hand tools.

 

            Summary:  Manager of Multi-Modal stated nine truck containers, which are the property of a shipping company, had their seals cut and were entered by unknown person/s.  It was not known if anything was stolen until the owner’s were notified and inventory taken.

 

            Location:  27665 S. Frontage Road East        Powell Equipment

            Summary:  Owner stated at about 5:45am he arrived at his business and heard an audible alarm from inside his building.  It appeared that person/s unknown attempted entry but did not gain access.  Owner observed a chain link fence around his property that had been cut for the offenders to enter.  A lock on a trailer was found to be cut, but nothing was missing.

 

            Location:  Briggs and Cass

            Summary:  Louis A. Yangas, age 33, of 14000 Citation Drive in Orland Park was arrested for speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol and DUI. 

 

3/5       Location:  800 block of Schock Drive

            Summary:  At 7:05pm, a husband and wife heard three loud bangs while they were watching TV.  Police were notified and upon checking out their residence they observed the front door to be open with the door frame broken.  The homeowner then heard a car racing away from his residence. 

 

            Location:  500 block of Sehring

            Summary:  Victim received a washer and dryer from a relative and brought it home.  He moved the dryer into his residence but realized he needed something from the store and left the washer at the front steps.  Upon his return he discovered that person/s unknown stole the washing machine.  Victim reported that a male/black, in his 30’s, 5’7”, 160lbs, driving a green pickup truck had stopped by his residence when he was unloading the units and asked if they were for sale.  Victim told him no, at which time he left.

 

            Location:  21900 SW Frontage Road             Leisure Lake Resort

            Summary:  Manager of the campground stated that sometime between 2/15 and 3/5 person/s unknown came onto the storage lot and cut off approximately forty, 20ft. sections of thirty amp power cords which distributes power to the mobile campers.

 

            Location:  1500 block of E. Cass

            Summary:  Person/s unknown entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a duffle bag containing a work jacket, work pants and a cordless drill.  Damage was done to the dash board where the offender/s attempted to steal the stereo system.

 

            Location:  200 block of Hebbard

            Summary:  Rogelio Salas-Reyes, age 26, of 227 N. Hebbard in Joliet was arrested for criminal damage to property.

 

 

3/6       Location:  900 block of Rosary Lane

            Summary:  The neighbor of an 83 year old woman reported to deputies (at 8pm) that they observed a gray Cadillac driving past his house, and the woman’s house, about three or four times.  He then heard a loud banging outside and when he went to check it out he observed a male/black getting into the Cadillac and leave the scene.  The access door to the woman’s residence had been kicked in but no access was made.  The woman was not home during the incident. 

 

            Location:  600 block of Timberline Drive

            Summary:  Person/s unknown kicked in the front door of an elderly man’s residence, entered it and stole a laptop and a 46” TV.  Drawers and cabinets were also rummaged through.  The victim was not home at the time of the burglary.

 

            Location:  100 block of S. Park Road

            Summary:  After leaving the home of a friend, victim realized he had left his digital camera there.  Upon returning he was told by his friend that two unknown males that had also been visiting must have taken it.

 

FRANKFORT AND NEW LENOX

3/1       Location:  191st and LaGrange Rd.

            Summary:  Joseph J. Lovelady, age 23, of 6850 S. Ridgeland Avenue in Chicago was cited for driving while license suspended.

 

            Location:  12000 block of Clyde Court                      New Lenox

            Summary:  Person/s unknown stole a 1995 Fountain Powerboat ($55,000) and the trailer it was on ($5000).  The boat was last seen on the site 2/27 and had a For Sale sign posted to it.

 

            Location:  1801 E. Lincoln Highway                         New Lenox

            Summary:  A 16 year old female student from Lincolnway Central was transported to Silver Cross Hospital for neck and back pain after the vehicle she was driving slid off the roadway and struck a light pole and flipped on its’ side.   The pole landed on the ground just in front of the vehicle.  The girl was treated and released.

 

3/2       Location:  12000 block of W. Thomas Court             New Lenox

            Summary:  A People’s Gas work truck had its passenger window broken out by unknown person/s while it was parked in the employee’s driveway.

 

            Location:  21000 block of S. 79th Avenue                  Frankfort

            Summary:  Victim discovered person/s unknown used her checking account number to purchase $985 worth of merchandise.  The items were shipped to Virginia.

 

3/3       Location:  Hackberry and W. Lincoln Highway                    Frankfort

            Summary:  Martin Mendoza, age 26, of 302 Bradford in Lockport was cited for loud muffler, driving while license suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.  An FTA warrant was also active out of Lemont.

 

            Location:  7956 W. Lincoln Highway            Smokers Haven           Frankfort

            Summary:  Owner stated person/s unknown broke into his store, that was not officially opened, and stole 45 boxes of cigars ($80), glass ashtrays ($50), unknown quantity of whiskey flasks, 4 limited edition Zippo lighters ($60 each), unknown quantity of tobacco pipes, approximately 40 Zippo lighters ($20 each), 11 cases of cigarettes (about $9000) and an unknown amount of jewelry scales ($15 each). 

 

            Location:  Harlem and W. Lincoln Highway             Frankfort

            Summary:  Karl A. Truite, age 29, of 5663 Amhurst in Matteson was arrested for possession of cannabis under 30 grams and no tail lights.
